Not My Destiny (Flash Fiction)

Destiny, by John William Waterhouse

This is a flash fiction piece I wrote a couple of days ago.  I believe it shows a woman in a bad relationship that is coming to terms with her strength.  Please let me know what you think.  That’s my two-cents for the day.
The heartless bastard abandoned me. Doesn’t he realize the cruel damage he caused my heart. I don’t regret loving him, but I won’t play second fiddle to anyone’s drinking.

I can’t stand to be around him when he is drinking.  He gets sickly sweet and then meaner than hell. I told him I was going to Angie’s for a while.  She always helped me cope with Don’s drinking. I was only gone two hours; he packed his clothes, and left.

The apartments empty, I have to sit down. God it smells in here. Rocking back and forth gives me a new perspective on my life. I haven’t lost my life, only my pride.  I may not have him, but that’s just fine. I know he’s not my destiny. I will keep looking until I find it. When I do, I will know I’ve arrived at my destiny.

About shirleymclain930

I'm a retired RN enjoying my retirement to the fullest. I liked adventure and travel and making friends. I have 6 dogs and 1 cat. They are like having a house full of three years olds. Now for the rest of the story. My Granddaughter and her husband now live with us and they have 4 dogs and 4 cats along with a giant Flemish Rabbit. My Granddaughter has now added beautiful, Olivia to our household. My fourth Great Grandchild. They are a large part of my life and I can't imagine them not being around. I spend most of my time sitting in front of my computer working on my latest book or talking about Essential Oils. On the personal side, I'm married to a wonderful man who spoils me and I love it. I am very much a country girl. I love living on our 5 acres on Pole Cat Creek watching the deer and other animals occasionally stick their heads out of the trees. It's a fun life.

  1. It’s good…

If I may, a couple of suggestions… you may want to paragraph and maybe even italicize your intro from the content… If you agree and need any help working with WordPress, if I can, I’ll be glad to help, when I’m sober.

( You are aware I don’t drink nearly as much or as often as I suggest I do. ) My lovely lady lawyer of 20+ years would have gone to Angie’s years ago.

Ps and my site at is open .. just testing it to see how it works in browsers

  2. As soon as you sober up, I would appreciate any help you would like to give.
I am happy your wife has had the tolerence to hang with you for 20 something years. There must be some good qualities there. Thank you my friend.

  3. Thank you so much for dropping by my blog. Your analogy is so true, sometimes the best things come from bad. It is a shame we just can’t realize it the time we are suffering from whatever. Drop around again, your always welcome.

  4. I’d like to thank you for the efforts you’ve put in writing this blog. I am hoping to see the same high-grade content from you in the future as well. In fact, your creative writing abilities has encouraged me to get my very own blog now 😉
