I Did It: I Quit

It only took me three years to get to the point that I had experienced enough BS that I could close the door on it forever.  You’re wondering what I’m talking about, I’m sure.  Three years ago I joined a community called FanBox to earn money. They had a great concept to help others to help themselves. I have worked hard and actually pulled out a couple of thousand.

Then things began to change. A rule was put in here and there which made it more difficult to get your money out. You could still make money but you couldn’t get to it.  They had money in place that you could borrow from and use like a business loan.  You had to pay it back before you could get money back. That was all well and good. Then they began placing levels according to how much you spent. When I opted out I was a brown level. They bad part about that is it happened automatically. It was another way to take money out of your balance so you couldn’t pay back the loan amount which in turn kept you from cashing any money out.

I am now convinced the program is perpetuated by the new people who are coming into the system that do not understand what is really happening.  Poor people from all over the world are involved in FanBox. You buy products from others, you sell products and services and the money all goes into the FanBox Bank. Right now I do feel like FanBox is a pyramid scheme. Those at the top are making very good money.  When you question anything it always comes back that you are not working the program correctly and you can leave at any time you choose.

Yes, you can leave at any time you choose.  The problem is (which they know) you’ve invested a lot of work and money into this program.  If you close out your membership everything you have earned goes to the community bank and you lose. I didn’t want to quitter but that is what I finally became. I left $1000 of my money in their bank with no way to get it. I decided that I was going to cut my loses and stop the monthly fees and the charges to my credit card.

I believed in FanBox for a long time but I can say that I feel pretty foolish right now. I was sucked in along with thousands of other people. It is a shame that the people who need the money the most are the ones who are investing all their time and resources into FanBox.

I hope this blog helps some people who are considering joining FanBox to step back and really think about what they are doing.

I'm a retired RN enjoying my retirement to the fullest. I liked adventure and travel and making friends. I have 6 dogs and 1 cat. They are like having a house full of three years olds. Now for the rest of the story. My Granddaughter and her husband now live with us and they have 4 dogs and 4 cats along with a giant Flemish Rabbit. My Granddaughter has now added beautiful, Olivia to our household. My fourth Great Grandchild. They are a large part of my life and I can't imagine them not being around. I spend most of my time sitting in front of my computer working on my latest book or talking about Essential Oils. On the personal side, I'm married to a wonderful man who spoils me and I love it. I am very much a country girl. I love living on our 5 acres on Pole Cat Creek watching the deer and other animals occasionally stick their heads out of the trees. It's a fun life.

so sorry, Shirley. we all get into tangled messes with no apparent or easy way out. glad you were bold [see my blog today, B for Boldness] and did what you had to do. I believe Father will honor your action!!

  • Thank you so much for your kind words. I do appreciate it very much.

  • So glad you go out of it. Sounds like a pyramid scheme. I know waaay too many people who are involved in that stuff. If you’re going to be poor, might as well be a writer;)

I remember you from FanBox Shirley. 🙂

I finally woke up and smelled the coffee one day as well. My story is a bit more dramatic than yours as I was the victim of an accounting glitch which deducted more than half of my earnings (over 10K) from my account. Even though I was at the top PU membership level where we are able to use all our funds used within FanBox to pay our fees, I could not do this, as they were not there.

There was no way to continue on with my account without having to pay more money out of my own pocket because of their dysfunctional broken, never to leave Alpha..(how long has it been in Alpha 10 years?) site that had used up a good portion of my life for the past year, not to mention about $1000 I payed out in fees over that time.

I once wrote a blog about where the money comes from in FanBox that pays those that are cashing out, I thought it might be the marketplace but then the math didn’t add up, their broken buggy marketplace wasn’t making enough to cover all the income we were making from posting, Think 10,000 members averaging $100 daily just for copyrighting other work on their blogs, posting other peoples photos from google or wherever and posting youtube videos other people created.

I think I now know where the income come from to support their accounting, it’s from people like you and me that opted to smell the coffee one morning instead of drinking the kool-ade

I was pretty upset when I was pushed out of FanBox for fear they would just go into my PayPal and take the money I could not pay because of their accounting glitch. The funny thing is as soon as I clicked the delete button on my account, I first felt a small sense of loss and detachment followed by a feeling of chains releasing.

Like you I kept thinking I would eventually just make it up to the top (of the pyramid?) and be safe like all the rest. I knew most people didn’t stick around that long, but I was going to persevere and be the exception. The shining example.

I am a shining example alright. A shining example of a sketchy site that failed one of their most loyal and active members.

I totally feel you. have just been scammed by fanbox lately and i would just like to ask if after you have deactivated your fanbox account would they still be able to charge you? I’m worried that my future earnings would go to waste again.

    • Hello, thank you so much for reading my blog. I have not had any problems with FanBox since I deactivated my account. When you close out your account you lose everything you have earned to that point. I was lucky enough to withdraw some money before I knew it was a no win situation. I wish you nothing but good fortune in the future. Shirley
