USA Only: My opinion on what could Happen with Our Country.

Standard

It has been a long time since I have written a word on my blog but I feel this issue is important enough that I wanted to give my opinion. This will be my one and only online opinion about the upcoming election.

***

Good Morning everyone. Those of you that have known me a long time know that I’m not very political but as everyone else in this country, I do have my opinion. I was listening to the television yesterday, and there was a young college age) talking that got my attention. She was talking about how even knowing his issues she was going to vote for Trump just because there hadn’t been any change in Washington and she was going to encourage all she could to do the same.

It got me to thinking about what could happen to this country if he is elected and it scares me. On one side we have Hillary who has made poor choices in some areas but has worked who entire life for the public. Her husband was the President and not a bad one in my opinion. She already knows all of the foreign leaders, and they know both she and her husband. In my mind, we are getting Bill’s experience also if she is elected.

The email debacle with Hillary is not too different than President Bush’s teams problem with their lost emails. You can watch this short clip and find out what happened. http://www.pbs.org/…/w…/web-video/missing-white-house-emails
It happens on both sides of the isle.

It seems that the so-called Millenials and others in this country could be cutting off their nose to spite their face just for the sake of change right now. Donald Trump is a disaster waiting to happen for this country. He is unstable and the thought that because of his inability to keep his temper in check can through this country in necular war. There are some things he can do as president that congress or the senate can’t stop. Is the change in the white house for the next four years worth all the instability and potential hazards that can happen if Donald Trump is elected? I think not.

I am old enough to have followed Trump throughout his life and witnessed the choices that a spoiled rich man made. He didn’t let anything get in his way. If he wanted it to happen, whether good or bad it happened. I don’t want this man held up as an example of someone to follow to my great-grandchildren or anyone’s child as far as that goes.
I will be glad to discuss my opinion with anyone that can keep it civil and clean. Twice I have written what I thought, and I won’t be doing it again, but I thought maybe this might give someone reason to stop and think about what can potentially happen to our country. Thanks for reading.

President Kennedy Assassination (graphic picture)

I found this video from a former FBI man who investigated President John F. Kennedy’s assination very interesting. For me there has always been to many questions left unanswered. Maybe now the truth is beginning to be told.  Take a look and let me know what you think about it.  Shirley

Lies And Distortions Of The Health Care

Standard

I am a proponent of the Affordable Health Care Act. After working as an RN for many years I had first hand experience about just how broke the system is or was. The following was posted in the Huffington Post and I want to repost it to try and help people to understand some of the misrepresentation of facts. I am breaking the article up because it is so long and contains a lot of information. This will give everyone time to read and consider what it is  saying.  I am sorry to say that due to circumstances I will be unable to post the second part for a week or so.  Let me know if you find this interesting.  Blessings to all.

The Affordable Care Act Would Add To The Deficit
Image
The only thing more important than painting the Affordable Care Act as a certain killer of jobs was to paint it as a certain murderer of America’s fiscal future. Surely this big government program was going to push indebtedness to such a height that our servitude to our future Chinese overlords was a fait accompliAs Ryan Grim reported in May of 2010, the CBO disagreed:

Comprehensive health care reform will cost the federal government $940 billion over a ten-year period, but will increase revenue and cut other costs by a greater amount, leading to a reduction of $138 billion in the federal deficit over the same period, according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, a Democratic source tells HuffPost. It will cut the deficit by $1.2 trillion over the second ten year period.

The source said it also extends Medicare’s solvency by at least nine years and reduces the rate of its growth by 1.4 percent, while closing the doughnut hole for seniors, meaning there will no longer be a gap in coverage of medication.

Recently, the CBO updated its ten-year estimate by dropping off the first two years of the law (where there was little to no implementation) and adding two years at the back end (during which time there would be full implementation). As you might imagine, replacing two years of low numbers with two years of higher numbers increased the ten-year estimate. But opponents of the bill immediately freaked out and declared the costs to have skyrocketed. As Jonathan Chait reported

The outcry was so widespread that the CBO took the unusual step of releasing a second update to explain to outraged conservatives that they were completely misreading the whole thing:

“Some of the commentary on those reports has suggested that CBO and JCT have changed their estimates of the effects of the ACA to a significant degree. That’s not our perspective. …

Although the latest projections extend the original ones by three years (corresponding to the shift in the regular ten-year projection period since the ACA was first being developed), the projections for each given year have changed little, on net, since March 2010.”

That is CBO-speak for: “Go home. You people are all crazy.”

As Chait goes on to note, the CBO now projects that “the law would reduce the deficit by slightly more than  had originally forecast.”

The Affordable Care Act $500 Billion Cut From Medicare
Image
Normally, if you tell Republicans that you’re going to cut $500 billion from Medicare, they will respond by saying, “Hooray, but could we make it $700 billion?” But the moment they got it into their heads that the Affordable Care Act would make that cut from Medicare, suddenly everyone from the party of ending Medicare As We Know It, Forever got all hot with concern about what would happen to these longstanding recipients of government health care.

In fairness, as Factcheck pointed out, the GOP opponents of Obama’s plan were simply picking up a cudgel that had recently been wielded by the president himself:

Whether these are “cuts” or much-needed “savings” depends on the political expedience of the moment, it seems. When Republican Sen. John McCain, then a presidential candidate, proposed similar reductions to pay for his health care plan, it was the Obama camp that attacked the Republican for cutting benefits.

Image
Nevertheless

Whatever you want to call them, it’s a $500 billion reduction in the growth of future spending over 10 years, not a slashing of the current Medicare budget or benefits. It’s true that those who get their coverage through Medicare Advantage’s private plans (about 22 percent of Medicare enrollees) would see fewer add-on benefits; the bill aims to reduce the heftier payments made by the government to Medicare Advantage plans, compared with regular fee-for-service Medicare.

The New England Journal of Medicineconcurred

A phased elimination of the substantial overpayments to Medicare Advantage plans, which now enroll nearly 25% of Medicare beneficiaries, will produce an estimated $132 billion in savings over 10 years.

[…]

The ACA also produces nearly $200 billion in savings by assuming that providers can improve their productivity as firms in other industries have done. On the basis of this presumed improvement, the law reduces Medicare’s annual “market basket” updates for most types of providers – a provision that has generated controversy.

The law doesn’t cut any customer benefits, just the amount that providers get paid. Hospitals and drug companies agreed to these cuts based on the calculation that more people with insurance meant more people consuming what they sell and, more importantly for the hospitals, fewer people getting treated and simply not paying for it.

Are You Thankful?

Standard

bigstock-Man-holding-arms-up-in-praise--14031791“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” Oprah Winfrey. From the online dictionary thank·ful

Adjective
  1. Pleased and relieved: “they were thankful that the war was finally over”; “I was very thankful to be alive”.
  2. Expressing gratitude and relief: “a thankful prayer”.
Synonyms
grateful – appreciative – beholden
Most of us are now working to achieve our desires. Jim Rohn, inspirational speaker said his key phrase is “Learn to be Thankful for what you already have, while you pursue all that you want.” We must learn the lesson of being thankful for what we have if we are to be a success in our life.  Without being thankful no doors or windows will open for you. I am a beleiver in God and without thankfullness, I truely beleive that no blessings can come our way.
Think about what you have to be grateful for, your parents, your spouse, your children, your job, your car ect. ect. Even those that think they have very little can find something to feel grateful about. Do you have good health? Are you thankful for your health? What would it be like if you didn’t have it. Maybe you are very ill, you can be thankful you have another day with your family and friends.
The Bible says, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
This is an article by Jim Rohn that sums up thankfulness for him. If nothing else it should give us all something to think about.

To appreciate the uniqueness of our own experiences that has brought us all here, together. For the countries we represent; we have freedom and liberty. These are extraordinary times, about eleven years ago the walls came tumbling down, in Germany, and it started a wave of democracy and freedom like the world has never seen before. We as a country and as a world have so much to be thankful for. Always start with thanksgiving; be thankful for what you already have and see the miracles that come from this one simple act.

Now thankfulness is just the beginning; next, you’ve got to challenge yourself to produce. Produce more ideas than you need for yourself so you can share and give your ideas away. That is called fruitfulness and abundance. Here’s what I think fruitfulness and abundance mean – to go to work on producing more than you need for yourself so you can begin blessing others, blessing your nation and blessing your enterprise. Once abundance starts to come, once someone becomes incredibly productive, it’s amazing what the numbers turn out to be. But to begin this incredible process of blessing, it often starts with the act of thanksgiving and gratitude, being thankful for what you already have and for what you’ve already done. Begin the act of thanksgiving today and watch the miracles flow your way.

The video is Where are you Christmas? with some tough pictures to look at, but it is a reminder of how thankful we should be for the life we have.

Is It a Government Conspiracy?

Meriwether Lewis

I watched a television program last night that totally fascinated me. It was about Meriwether Lewis. Those of you who are not familiar with him, I will tell you a little about his background. He was born on August 18, 1774 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He became a soldier, served under William Clark who he later picked to be co-charge for the great exploration of the west, authorized by Thomas Jefferson.  Meriwether started out as the personal secretary to President Jefferson, but Jefferson gave him another job to explore the Louisana Purchase and  westward.

President Jefferson also gave them a mandate to see if there were signs of Welch occupancy in the west. Since Lewis had served under William Clark, they knew each other well. The two gathered their supplies and other men and left for the unknown in May 1804.

Meriwether Lewis kept journals of everything he saw during his mission. He retured in May 1806.  Documentation along with drawings showed President Jefferson what was seen on the journey.

Three years after returning home, Meriwether was going back to Washington DC with his Journals  He was staying at an Inn on the Natchez Trace. The Trace was a well used 440 mile trail from Mississippi to Tennessee.  At the Inn on October 12, 1809, a couple of gun shots were heard and Meriwether Lewis was found dead. He had one shot in the abdomen and one through the head, with blew part of the skull off exposing the brain. It was ruled as a suicide.

Since that time there has been a theory that the United States Government had him killed because he had found something during the expedition that would threaten the United States right to the lands west of the Mississippi. Such as the Welch having been there before which would give England the right to the land.

Pages had been torn from his journal and were never seen again. Lewis was a Mason and had his apron in his pocket. When they removed it, it was blood spattered. The apron is on display in Montana. Blood samples were taken and it has been shown that it came from two different men and not Meriwether Lewis.

I think it’s fascinating to know that even back when the country was new that a National Hero could have been killed because of knowledge he had that could harm the government. It’s something we will never know for sure but does make for a good story.

It’s Over, Sort Of

Here it is the day after one of the worst election campaigns that I have witnessed since I became old enough to actually pay attention to the television. Thankfully it is finally over and we have put our country in the hands of the President for a second term. There has been a lot of faith placed in him that he will continue to bring this country forward out of the quagmire we’ve been in for far to long.

He has a big job to do and I wouldn’t want to change places with him for anything in this world. It’s an extremely thankless position with nice perks and a place to live.  He is essentially the fall guy for both parties. As a Christian I have to place him and this country in the hands of God with prayer to back him up. That prayer is for him to do what needs to be done here at home and abroad.

I would encourage each Christian and other God-fearing faiths to pray. The biggest thing for me right now is Israel. I spent this past weekend at a conference that explained that Israel does not belong to the people but to God and he does not want his land divided.  Any country that goes against Israel and helps to divide the land will be judged by God. From my understanding both President Obama and Gov. Romney both want Israel divided in two for the cause of peace.

The other thing which was said about Israel is they will be in war with Iran in the first part of this next year. They were waiting to see the outcome of this election before deciding on a date. That’s another pressure put on the USA. The President said during the debates he had Israel’s back, which if this country wants to stay on the good side of God is a good thing. The problem is a lot of suffering is going to take place.

I know I don’t usually blog about politics or religion, but I felt I had to do this. Please pray for our country.

Let’s talk Obama Care

Standard
Barack Obama at the University of Nevada, Las ...

Image via Wikipedia

This blog is a combination of a couple I posted back in March when the Supreme court was making their decision. I thought it was timely to repost it. I have edited a couple of things.

As a retired RN who has worked in many areas of health care I have seen and experienced our broken health care system.  I have seen and experienced waiting in an emergency room for hours because it is being used like a clinic because lower-income people can’t afford medical care for themselves or their children.

I feel we are being held hostage by the insurance companies who can dictate what our doctors can and can’t do.  Since they have to control their costs and make money, people are denied treatments that can save their life.  I feel every citizen in this country is entitled to medical care and I think the changes that will and have been started by Obama Care is a  good thing.  Why is it wrong for people to help buy insurance in a government-run program?  The citizens of this country have been paying for all of the care given to the poor to start with.  I feel in the long run this can save us money.  I can’t see a problem with them getting supplemented insurance at all. Obama Care will also help decrease the Medicare fraud that is perpetuated by the system in place now.  Wouldn’t that save us a vast amount of money?

I for one applaud the president for taking the initiative to change our health care system.  It is something that should’ve been done long ago.  Politics in this country tries to portray this plan as bad or good.  As I said, it is a new start.  I am not afraid of a new beginning with health care but I know many people are.

I am attaching a Bill Moyer’s video talking about medical lobbyist in Washington. It explains why so much propaganda is spread about anything affecting medicine or drugs.

http://youtu.be/GsIcS7egnyw

I have stated before on this blog that I think the healthcare program is a good thing for the people of this country.  With the insurance company‘s running the doctors and hospitals a lot of people are not getting the care they should be getting. We are already paying out the wazoo for the uninsured to receive care  with the high costs of medical care and deaths that could have been prevented.  If the mandatory insurance makes people get insurance who would otherwise just think they can use the ER as an Emergency Room with no thought to how they are tying up the system or the cost to all of us.  I think it is a good thing to make everyone responsible for something that might help reshape our medical and insurance system. It is something everyone uses at one time or another.

I do not think only the rich should be entitled to medical procedures which can save and improve lives.  As an RN I am not in favor of prolonging life just because it can be.  A life needs quality, not just quantity. I think this will give a good start to equal access.

I know how I want this election to go, but I also know it’s in God’s hands.  As an American and a Christian I will live with the final outcome. Either way it will be tough on all of us.

That’s my two-cents once again on healthcare.  Let me know what you think and why you feel the way you do. I look forward to hearing from you.  A healthy discussion is always good.

Birth Control and Other Things

I am going to start out with the other things in today’s blog.  In my last post I wrote about my squatter, ED. I want to give you an update. Ed has finally got the message he doesn’t live here anymore. A friend of his helped move him out and put his stuff in storage. It took a week after that for him to stop coming to the house and just walking in. We finally got the police involved and social services. He told the police how mad he was about us “taking his mailbox down.” I feel so bad for Ed, but there is nothing I can do.

My house is all painted and it looks good. My furniture will be arriving from Texas this next week. I’ll be so glad to have my “things about me, again.” I think that line came from a John Wayne Movie. Do you know which one? I will post it at the end of the blog.

I was reading this morning about how the Catholic Bishops were talking about women and birth control. First of all let me tell you, I am Catholic, not a cradle one, but converted. If I’m asked what religion I am I tell them I am a Pentecostal Catholic. So I do have some different view from the church.

I very much believe in birth-control for women. I do believe the bible is the inspired word of God, but I know it was written by men of the early church, who’s world was nothing like ours.  Men ruled at that time and still feel they have to now (In the church). I am not a subservient woman, and I believe I have the same rights as any man. I may not have the same strengths but I do have different ones. I believe that any woman should be able to choose to use birth control.

If you would like to read the article I read, I am giving you the link.  http://www.nationalmemo.com/catholic-leaders-must-dial-down-the-rhetoric/2/

Oh yes, the answer to the John Wayne question is “The Quiet Man.” When Maureen O’Hara was giving John Wayne a good talking to about her dowry, she told him of having her things about her.  Did you guess it right?  Until next time stay safe and happy.

What About Our Poor?

Standard

I just watched a video, which you can see on Wimp.com called “Immigration, World Poverty and Gumballs”.  The presenter used an ingenious method of jars of gum balls to represent the population of poor countries.  The point of his presentation was to show that the United States may be harming the poor countries of the world by letting the thinkers and doers of a what ever poor country to immigrate to the States, thus depriving the country of the possibility of that person making a difference in their own country.

The really poor of the country can’t afford to immigrate.  Mexico is just a bit different because we share a border, so if the poor can manage to get into the country, they are here.  Just not as one of the legal one million immigrants we take in yearly.

According to the presenter the poor nations are adding people faster than we as a country, could  possibly take them.  The really poor and desperate have to be helped in their own country.  I am all for helping the poor of the world, but I think our own poor should be helped first.  We have homeless families on the streets, who can’t afford food or housing.  The basic necessities of life are missing.

It is true some of these people made choices in their life which put them in the situation they are in, but what about the children.  The children did not cause the problem.  This is only one tiny segment of the poor and destitute of our country.  There is always someone.  It could be a geriatric person who can’t stay warm this winter, because they can’t  pay heat bills and buy food at the same time. There are people who if they buy food can’t pay for their drugs.  It is a vicious circle for people to numerous to count.

I know politics is involved with a lot of the aide that is dispensed to foreign countries.  It is always for humanitarian purposes, but it could be, you scratch my back and I will scratch yours.   I still believe we should take care of our own first.  That is my two-cents for today.

The Thornbirds and Aging

Standard

I bet you are wondering how The Thornbirds relates to aging.  It is by association only and I will tell you how.  This morning I was reading a blog and it mentioned doing a blog on movies that we own.  One of my favorite movies is “The Thornbirds” with Barbara Stanwyck, and Richard Chamberlain.

Thinking about that movie, prompted me to remember the scene at the birthday party where Mary Carson is trying to get Father de Bricassart to kiss her.  Mary tells him her body may be seventy-five (just guessing) but in her mind she is still a young woman with all the same needs and desires.

I feel that one scene says so much about life and ageing, at least for me.  I am sixty-one years old and I feel the same way.  My brain still thinks, and feels like I am twenty-five but my body definitely says I’m sixty-one.  I am a lot smarter than I was a twenty-five (thank goodness), but nothing has been taken away from my mind.

When I was a young lady, working in long-term care, I would care for people, and ask myself what would be better, to lose your mind, and keep a fairly healthy body, or to lose the body and have a totally intact mind.  I have reached an age where I have made a decision.  I choose to keep a healthy mind.  I want to know what is going on around me or in other words I want to see life for as long as I can.  When my quality of life is gone, then take my brain so I don’t know anything.  Honestly, I want the good Lord to call me home before I get into that position.  unfortunately it is something we have no control over unless you choose suicide.  As far as I am concerned suicide is not an option.  Suicide is a copout on life.

Some people let their mind age out of choice.  They choose not to expand their knowledge about anything.  They want to sit in that rocker and wait to die (another copout).  My dad is eighty-five years old and he certainly doesn’t fit in that category.  He keeps up with politics and everything going on around him.  He still goes out and climbs on a tractor to take a round bale of hay to the cattle.  His body has lots of aches and pains but he keeps moving, and keeps his mind active.  If the good Lord lets me reach eighty-five, I hope he lets me do as well.

My question to you is; Do you want your mind or body to live the longest, if one has to go before the other?  That’s my two-cents for today.
